RECAP: Governing Body at Junior Achievement - 11.15.23

The More for Memphis plan has reached an important milestone.

On November 15th, 2023, the More for Memphis Governing Body convened at Junior Achievement to review the proposed plan strategies for each focus area. The group also discussed a governance structure for the implementation phase, capital aggregation, and a transition plan to bridge the gap between finalization of the MFM plan and setting up the implementation structure.

After discussion, the group conducted a sense vote of eligible voters, and a vote of 4 or 5 (out of 1 to 5) was needed for approval. The results are below:

  • 80% affirmed the MFM strategies (inclusive of the MFM background and six focus area strategies).

  • 91% affirmed the MFM five-year priorities, governance structure, and transition work groups (finalization committee will conduct a sense vote on the transition work group nomination list).

With this vote, the plan has been approved to move forward. Over the next six months, three working groups will focus on the transition from planning to implementation by quickly advancing concrete, short-term bodies of work. The groups include 1) governance implementation, 2) private capital aggregation, and 3) near-term implementation planning.

We look forward to convening the coalition on January 31st, 2024 for an update.
